Soooo close

Went out on A/3 diamonds vs. 6's - One A looks so much like two heads up.

Balance $121.24

Which is staggeringly good, since about a week ago I was at $30.

I sat down (again) and wrote out the restrictive rules on what starting hands I will play, what bets I will make, and began following it.

If I use discipline, all I need is cards and some luck.

Balance: Pathetic :-P

I, unfortunately, have been hit by two things at once.

1) I found out how to deposit money into Pokerstars (at Wegemans, within walking distance of my office)

2) I'm, once again, futilely trying to qualify for for the WSOP or other big tourneys, thus burning through my stack with abandon.

Adding up #1 and #2, and I'm not even bothering to win little tourneys to refresh my stack.

Good times, good times

Face to Face (drunk) poker

My buddy Joe had a poker night, and I played it a bit more loosely than I do normally. (Weren't many people raising pre-flop)

Notable hands:

With the blinds at 400/800, a stack of about 3000, and an automatic rebuy of 750 'chit' in my hand, I chose to make a stand.

With a marginal hand (A/? or K/Q)

And me one position away from the big blind.

Which meant that when I lost, I was instantly all in, with whatever cards were dealt to me . . . and it was 2/9 offsuit.

I got lucky and got a 9 high flush on the river, but it was a stupid series start-to-finish on my part.

I won some decent ones - AQ diamonds into an A-high flush - 7-8 into a 8 high straight - KK's with continuous betting taking down a large pot on the river.

I lost a monster with KQ. Flop comes 10 10 K, and it was checked around. Turn is nothing, and I bet heavy, Roger goes all in over top of me, and I call. He turns over pocket 10's and I lose, even with a 3rd K on the river.

I won a monster , purely luck - I went all in over a medium stack with K/J - and Gary turns over K's. I get two J's in the mix to beat him with trip jacks.

Good times.

-Walt
